Quality editing, the right thing to do.
I want to work with you to make your book as polished as possible. I view myself as more than just your editor, but also as a collaborator. Just because you are an indie author, doesn’t mean you can’t produce a professional product. I think we can all agree nothing screams amateur louder than a poorly edited manuscript.
In fact, that’s how I got started. With the boom of the indie book market, I was reading more self-published books and finding the lack of editing turned me off. Even if the story had merit, I just couldn’t get past the grammatical errors and plot holes. So, I decided to do something about it and here I am!
What I Check For:
Spelling, punctuation, and grammar errors
Correct tense usage
Misused words, missing words, extra words, word repetition (like in this sentence!), homonyms, and unnatural phrasing
Plot holes, inconsistencies, and things that will confuse your reader, or leave them with too many questions
Dialogue that is natural, and gets to the point
Ambiguous or factually incorrect statements. I will do a very small amount of Internet research, but will more often suggest you look up information
I use The Chicago Manual of Style, 16th Edition and Merriam-Webster’s Collegiate Dictionary
My job doesn’t end when I return the final manuscript to you. If you have questions or comments, I’m always available to respond to them. If you’re writing your WIP and need some input, I’m more than happy to give you an answer.
Are you ready?
If you’re going to pour your heart and soul into your project the last thing you want is to have low sales and hurtful reviews because of poor writing. Writing is an art.
Honesty is the best policy, and you want the truth about your work. If your manuscript is not ready to be edited or published I’ll tell you so, along with constructive criticism on how you can improve it, usually with a recommendation to join a quality writer’s group. Most beginning authors (and some more experienced) need to hone their skills and learn the rules of their craft before they are ready to present for public scrutiny.
I will always edit the first chapter for new clients for free. I'll include a per word price quote, and let you know my availability. My starting rate is $0.0065 per word with a minimum charge of $35.00, and it goes up according to the amount of work required.
If you are satisfied with the results of the sample edit and agree with the pricing and availability, email me a complete copy of your manuscript.
Two-step Editing Process
1. I will edit and make suggestions via the MS Word Review tab, then return it to you for revisions. At that time I will also send you an invoice with a handy link to PayPal for ease of paying. Payment is due upon receipt, and must be received before I do the second edit.
2. After you have made all changes and corrections to your manuscript return it to me for a second edit. The second edit is included in the original price.
What I expect:
To be listed as the editor on the title page of both e-books and print books, and in the metadata for e-books.
